Introduction of Technology Contest

Purpose
  • Crowdsourcing-based* technology contest has been introduced in order to cope with the complicated and various urban problems and reflect innovative technologies promptly to the policy administration of Seoul
*Crowdsourcing: A mixed word using Crowd and Outsourcing. Outside experts participate in the problem-solving process in the form of an Open-call and share the benefits when the goal is attained.
Contest Areas
  • All the areas needed for the technical solution of the urban problems in Seoul (All the areas of urban problems including road environment, construction, civil engineering and transportation)
Objects of Participation
  • The Seeker that wants to find a solution – the City of Seoul and affiliated agencies
  • The Solver that proposes a solution – citizens and companies

Procedures
  • Occurrence of a problem ► Definition of the challenge ► proposal of solutions ►The optimal solution is selected and given prize money ► Execution
  • Seoul City (The Seeker) raises urban problems (fine dust, etc.) at the NTRD.
  • The Research Institute defines the challenge task and announces the technology contest stating the amount of the reward.
  • The citizens and companies (The Solver) home and abroad propose solutions to the NTRD.
  • The Research Institute select the optimal solution through evaluation and give the prize money.
  • The City of Seoul reflects the solution to the policy administration of Seoul to solve the urban problem and spread the solution.
  • Problem Raising
    The City of Seoul and Affiliated Organizations (Seeker)
    • Raising urban problems that occur in the daily lives of the residents in Seoul such as residence, transportation and environment
  • Technology Contest
    Seoul Institute of Technology (SIT)
    • A crowdsourcing platform-based contest supervised by NTRD
    • Announce the prize money.
  • Proposal of Solutions
    Citizen / Company (Solver)
    • Technological expert home and abroad participate in the contest to suggest solutions through the NTRD.
  • Evaluation and Selection
    SIT
    • The optimal solution is selected by the Evaluation Committee composed of expert members.
    • Give prize money.
  • Execute the solution.
    Seoul City/Affiliated organization (Seeker)
    • Demonstrate the solution in Seoul City and spread the solution.
Implementation Plan
  • The first urban problem solving type technology contest is scheduled to be held in July 2019
